Sample size determination for eight coconut cultivars [Philippines]
1983
Alforja, L.M.
The relative variation within cultivar as an indicator of genetic potential was noted on various characters at varying levels. Notably observed on the dwarfs is the least variable nut component characters compared to tall. Sample sizes were determined for the characters of the cultivars based on the observed variability. On nut per tree estimation 24 sample palms is sufficiently enough to obtain a reliable information. For dwarf coconuts like Catigan and Tacunan, nut component characters can be estimated from 15 sample palms and 20 palms for tall population. Bunch per tree and spikelet per bunch estimation need 15 sample palms, while 30 palms are needed for female flower and fruit set
