Photosynthetic characteristics of Anabaena flos-aquae growing on various inorganic nitrogen sources

The kinetics of 14C fixation in Anabaena flos-aquae growing on NH4+, NO3- and N2-N in batch cultures were investigated. Growth rate was highest with NH4+, followed by NO3- and finally N2. The compensation intensity (L0) and the half-saturation irradiance (K1) with N2 were higher than with other N sources. The Pmax/K1 ratio was also with N2. 14C uptake measures net photosynthesis, the higher values of I0 and K1, and the low values of Pmax and Pmax/K1 ratio with N appear to be related to the high demand of N2 fixation
