Nor'westers and tornadoes occurring in Bangladesh for the years 1975-79 have been investigated with the help of pictures from weather satellite NOAA, ESSA, TIROS-N, Meteros and ground data. Nor'westers and tornadoes occur more or less throughout the year with the exception of December but most frequent during the pre-monsoon period. 104 nor'westers and tornadoes per year, on the average, have been reported in Bangladesh with maximum percentage of occurrence (38.3%) in April. The maximum frequency of occurrence is in the evening. They also seem to occur more frequently near the big rivers. A case study of a particular tornado in March, 1977 was observed that a discontinuity line is present along the tornado cloud in the synoptic chart. In general, it was found that prior to the occurrence of nor'wester and tornado, satellite pictures shows certain cloud feature either northwest, north or northeast of the place of occurence.
