Modified atmosphere using plastic bags for storing mango [Philipines]
1984
Andres, D.S.
The number of holes in the plastic bags significantly affected the ripening process. The more holes on the total surface area of the plastic bag, the faster the fruits ripened. Fruits stored in perforated plastic bags ripened satisfactorily and resulted in higher percentage of marketable fruits at the end of storage period. Fruits stored in fully sealed plastic bags did not develop their normal yellow color due to the limited supply of oxygen. This resulted to significantly lower pH levels than those perforated plastic bags. Percentage weight loss increased significantly with an increase in the percent number of holes. Fruits stored in fully sealed plastic bags gave the least percentage weight loss. Storage period was 42 days
