Comparative efficiency of training Murrah buffalo for draft relative to sex and age [Philippines]
1984
Miguel, R.A.
Male Murrah buffalo needed an average of 14.64 training hours before it could effectively perform all the training activities like pulling a pair of bamboo flanks, log, cart, harrow, and plow. On the other hand, a female needed an average of 23.46 hours before it could perform the same type of work. Relative to age, a 30 to 36 month-old Murrah buffalo needed an average of 15.81 hours to effectively perform the draft-tests while a relatively older animal (42 to 40 months old) needed an average of 22.35 hours. Statistical tests proved that sex and age were significant factors in the efficiency of training Murrah buffaloes for draft. Males were significantly faster and easier to train than females. Similarly, young animals were easier to train than older animals
