Survey of the seed-borne fungi of common weed species in CLSU [Central Luzon State Univ., Munoz, Nueva Ecija, Philippines]

The blotter test and dry examination of the seeds of ten species of weeds showed that they are contaminated with various fungal species. Fusarium moniliforme Link., Fusarium semitectum Berk. and Rav., Curvularia lunata Boedjn., Alternaria tenuis Nees., Cladosporium herbarum (Pers.) Link ex S.F. Gray. Aspergillus flavus Link., Helminthosporium maydis (Drechsl), Myrothecium roridum Tode ex. Fr., Cephalosporium sp., Epicoceum sp. and Penicillium sp. Dry examination of the different seed samples showed the presence of Ustilagnoidea virens (Cooke) Takahashi on Echinochloa colona (L) Link and conidia of Drechslera sp. (Helminthosporium sp.) in Paspalidium flavidum (Retz.) A. camus. Seed samples that showed symptoms of malformation and discoloration are those of Echinochloa colona (L) Link, Epoemoea triloba L., Paspalidium flavidum (Retz.) A. camus, Eleusine indica (L) Gaertn. and Centrosema pubescens Benth
