The modified approach to pesticide residue data generation was applied to string beans and pechay. Results of the pesticide management survey revealed farmer practices on pesticide use. Organophosphorus insecticides applied twice a week was common farmer practice in 1983. At present, pyrethroids have replaced most of the previously used insecticides. Spraying is usually done every other day. Residue dissipation trials were conducted on monocrotophos, fenvalerate and cypermethrin at recommended and twice the recommended rate. The effect of washing on weathered residues was also evaluated. Market basket samples taken from the Metro Manila and Laguna [Philippines] area were analyzed for insecticide residues. Methyl parathion, diazinon and mevinphos residues were detected in 1983. Fenvalerate was detected in several samples taken in 1987.
