Predation efficiency of the short-meadow grasshopper, Conocephalus longipennis de Haan [Philippines]
1987
Pena, N.B. | Manalili, K. | Shepard, B.M.
Predation studies showed that short-meadow grasshopper, Conocephalus longipennis de Haan is a more efficient predator of yellow stemborer egg masses than Anaxipha sp. and Metioche sp. The predation rates of C. longipennis on different densities (2, 4, 8) of the yellow stemborer (YSB) egg masses positioned on crops of various ages were significantly different. Age of the rice plant did not affect the predative efficiency of the predator. Also predation studies of the different instars of C. longipennis on YSB egg masses showed that the fifth instar and adults of C. longipennis consumed a greater number of YSB egg masses than the third and fourth instars.
