Rice IPM [Integrated Pest Management] in farmers' fields [Philippines]

Integrated Pest Management (IPM) trials were conducted in Guimba, Nueva Ecija [Philippines] on farmers' fields during the 1985 dry season and 1986 wet season. Of the six farm samples, one-half was managed using the farmer's usual control practices and the other half using IPM. Costs of inputs were monitored; insecticides were applied to the IPM fields only after reaching thresholds determined by sequential sampling. In almost every case, the benefit/cost ratio favored those fields using IPM
