Responses of wheat to planting dates and fertilizer in the Cagayan River Valley [Philippines]
1986
Liboon, S.P. | Morris, R.A. (International Rice Research Inst., Los Banos, Laguna (Philippines). Multiple Cropping Dept.)
Yields of four wheat cultivars declined as plantings were delayed. Low yields were associated with increasing temperature. Weight per grain was most frequently and significantly affected by planting date, but number of grains/square meter was comparatively low for all plantings. UPLW-3 was highest yielding of the four wheat cultivars. Yields from the early plantings in both years exceeded 1.8 t/ha. Wheat did not respond to seeding rates above the lowest level tested (100 kg/ha). Higher seeding rates did not increase the number of grains/square meter. N fertilizer increased wheat yields most efficiently when the crop was planted early but differences between years and fields within second year were observed. N fertilizer increased the number of spikes/square meter and the number of grains/spike. Wheat did not respond to P fertilizer.
