Different inoculum sources and cultivation methods were evaluated for their efficiency in sheath blight resistance screening. The use of potato + soil substrate produced significantly higher disease severities than using rice grain + rice hull substrate. On the other hand, the three cultivation methods were not significantly different from each other based on disease severity. However, the incidence of disease and the uniformity of infection were significantly higher in upland and in lowland drained five days before inoculation than in strictly lowland cultivation method. Furthermore, upland nursery conditions, allow uniform distribution of artificial inoculum and easy plot management including manipulation of microclimatic conditions of nursery.
