Orius albidipennis (Reut.) (Hemiptera: Anthoconidae) - a predator of cotton pests

In the early stages of the cotton crop, Orius albidipennis (Reut.) was mostly found on the lower side of leaves but later it was usually restricted to flowers. The predator remained continuously in the cotton agroecosystems. Population of O. albidipennis varied from field to field depending on the use of pesticides, cultural practices, and cropping systems. During non-cotton season, O. albidipennis was recorded on eight plant species but Zea mays Linn., Sorghum vulgare Pers, Althaea rosea (Linn.) Cav. seemed to be important for its carry-over from one cotton season to the next. Feeding efficiency of O. albidipennis was recorded on immature stages of five sucking pests and eggs as well as first instar larvae of four lepidopterous insects of cotton. Adults of O. albidipennis caused comparatively higher mortality of cotton pests than the nymphs.
