Isolation and identification of active compounds against termites from luyang dilaw (Curcuma longa L.)
1990

Soluble extractives of Curcuma longa were bioassayed against termites and show 100% mortality after 24 hours which indicated the presence of toxic components. The extractives were then fractionated using preparative thin layer chromatography (TLC), column and gas chromatography (GC). Fraction 1 which contains the active components was found toxic against Coptotermes vastator and C. formosanus. The two active components (fractions D and F) had been isolated and purified by column chromatography. IR and GC-MS data indicated that these components are sesquiterpenes with molecular formulae C15H24O2 and C15H22O2 for fractions D and F, respectively.
