M/s Dev Agro Tools Pvt. Ltd., a smallscale manufacturer in Bangalore, India has developed improved toothed (serrated) harvesting sickles out of forged medium carbon, high manganese steel. The sickles are toothed with fine, medium and rough types of edges to meet the harvesting requirements of different crops and are self-whetting. The sickles are fixed with standard wooden handles which offer convenience, good grip and safety to the user. The improved metallurgy and manufacturing technology employed by the manufacturer, D.H. At present the firm has a manufacturing capacity of 600,000 sickles annually. The manufacturer is planning to undertake the production of hand tools for harvesting pigeon pea, cotton, sugarcane, safflower and other crops with hard vines and stems. The firm has plans to manufacture horticultural tools for local and foreign markets especially in Southeast Asian countries. Using higher quality steel, M/s Dev Agro Tools Pvt.
