Silica gel, a high purity non-toxic desiccant, is imported by the Philippines. CMD, ITDI [Chemicals and Minerals Div., Industrial Technology Development Inst.] established the production steps to encourage local manufacturer of silica gel. The raw materials used were locally produced. Sulfuric acid and sodium silicate were processed from rice husk ash. The silica gel produced contains 98.5% SiO2 and can adsorb 34.2% moisture (at 92% relative humidity)
