A food product that contains porous polymeric beads impregnated with flavoring components, and a method of making such a food product. The flavoring agents may comprise essential oils, synthetic flavors, or mixture thereof, including but not limited to, oils dried from plants and fruit such as citrus oils, fruit essences, peppermint oil, spearmint oil, clove oil, oil of wintergreen, anise, and the like. Artificial flavoring components are often included. Those skilled in the art will recognize that natural and artificial flavoring agents may be combined in any sensorially acceptable blend. All such flavors and flavor blends are contemplated by the present invention
