Selection for both yield and stability has been a common objective in many breeding programs. An index developed based on safety-first rule was used in sweet potato data aiming to combine root yield and stability parameter in evaluating sweet potato genotypes across environments. Four stability parameters were used in constructing the indices. It is shown that the safety-first indices can be applied to selection genotypes for stability and root yield in sweetpotato when genotype-environment interaction is present and selected genotype are high-yielding in both high and low environment
