Patchouli (Pogostemon cablin (Blanco) Benth) is an aromatic plant native to the Philippines locally known as "Kabling" and "Kadlum". The leaves contain essential oils known in the world market as oil of patchouli. Patchouli oil is widely used in the manufacture of perfumes, soaps, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals. It is however unfortunate that the current knowledge on vegetative growth behaviour and oil yield/quality is nil and fragmentary. It is therefore imperative that an inventory be made of patchouli cultivars/varieties/species found in the country; comparison be made of their horticultural performances and essential oil yield/quality. This will help provide the basic information needed towards the development of essential oil-based industries. Ten patchouli accessions were collected and temporarily named after the place where they were gathered. A preliminary evaluation of three accessions was made meanwhile that mass propagation is being done for the rest of the collections. Among three accessions, Sta. Cruz produced the tallest plants. Indonesia has more secondary laterals/leaves and higher herbage yield than the other two. Sta. Cruz accession gave the highest percent crude oil yield. A comparison of the leaf characteristics and oil analysis are given
