Ten farmers cooperators were selected to test the transplanted rice (TPR)-mungbean cropping pattern (CP) in Estipona, Pura, Tarlac [Philippines] from July 1991 to March 1994. Superimposed variety trials of both lowland rice and mungbean were included in the design. Superimposed fertilizer trial using various ratios of bio-organic and inorganic fertilizers were likewise included. Farmers' training on Rice-Based Farming Systems and field days were conducted as a result of the research activities. Results showed that BPIRi-10 produced higher grain yield for the agronomic cooperators than for the economic cooperators. PSBRC6 and PSBRC8 rice varieties and BPIMg9 mungbean variety in the superimposed variety trial, produced higher grain yield compared to other varieties tested. Split application of fertilizer using combined bio-organic and inorganic fertilizers produced comparable yield to split application of pure inorganic fertilizer
