Pascua, M.E. | Badar, A.J. (Mariano Marcos State Univ. Batac, Ilocos Norte (Philippines))
This study evaluated the performance of 18 rice genotypes purposely developed for rainfed lowland areas. This was set-up during the 1998 and 1999 wet season employing the direct seeding technology and following a Randomized Complete Block Design replicated three times. Results of the evaluation for two seasons revealed a consistent performance of the top yielder, IR 68098-B-78-2-2-B-1. The yield obtained by this rice cultivar (4.8 t/ha) almost doubled the yield of the check variety UPL Ri 7 which is 2.7 t/ha. Aside from its high yielding ability, this genotype matures within 122-124 days of intermediate stature, drought tolerant and resistant to lodging, hence this is suitable for rice-garlic cropping system in lowland areas in the Ilocos Region [Philippines]
