The effectiveness of using cotton balls impregnated with chemical and biological insecticides plugged in the excretion hole of Xyleutes sp. at the stem of their host was evaluated in a three-year old Gmelina arborea plantation in Catarman, Samar [Philippines]. Fipronil, Tebufenozide, Cypermethrin and Bacillus thuringiensis (Dipel) caused an average percent mortality of 100%, 97.5%, 82.5% and 80% mortality, respectively. Though differences among these treatments are not significantly different from each other, they are significantly different from the untreated (control). The practical application, requirement and advantages of this method in the field are briefly discussed
