2002
Necessito, C.T. (Provincial Agriculture Office, Agusan del Sur (Philippines))
A demonstration project on plastic mulching of different vegetables was conducted in Bayugan, Agusan del Sur [Philippines] from July to December 2000. Results showed that plastic mulching improved the production of squash, watermelon, muskmelon, ampalaya, tomato, cucumber, eggplant, sweet pepper, cabbage, cauliflower, and kangkong. Highest production (3 t/ha) was noted in mulched squash and upland kangkong, while the lowest was in cauliflower with 0.30 t/ha (mulched). Plastic mulch increased yield by as much as 370% in cauliflower, 193% in ampalaya, and 185% in squash. Lowest percentage (50%) increase in production due to mulching was observed in upland kangkong. The ROI ranged from 77.72% (mulched upland kangkong) to 265% in mulched tomato
