The effect of location and season on the grain quality of IR64 check variety was studied in the dry and wet seasons on irrigated lowland rice National Cooperative Test (NCT) II sites to verify the use of crops from PhilRice Maligaya and UPLB-Philrice Los Banos for quality evaluation. Milling yields, Chromater L*, apparent amylose content, alkali spreading value, gel consistency, Instron cooked rice hardness, and Rapid Visco Analyzer values of crops from PhilRice Maligaya and UPLB-Philrice Los Banos were close in mean values for the three crops. Protein content in the 1998 wet season (WS) was quite variable at 6.6 percent to 11.9 percent. Peak and breakdown RVA viscosity tended to be higher in the dry season (DS) than in the WS, but the reverse was true for RVA consistency and setback. Thus, crops from PhilRice Maligaya nd UPLB-PhilRice Los Banos are representative of NCT II grain crops.
