From forests to farms: emergence of genus Metapocyrtus (Coleoptera: Curculionidae:Entiminae:Pachyrrhynchini) as potential agricultural pest

The genus Metapocyrtus Heller is endemic to the Philippines. They are found in habitats consisting of vast tropical vegetation, open, mixed forests with dense undergrowth along rivers and ravines or on ridges and mountains, with most species living on smaller trees, bushes, shrubs, or ferns. The great number of these weevils are found in less explored mountainous regions between 500 to 2000 meters above sea level and between 16 deg and 18 deg north latitude. With the possible destruction of their forest habitats, a number of species have been increasingly observed at low elevation, even found thriving on and destroying agricultural crops such as Citrus sp., squash and potato.
