A trial for the control of rodent pests inside households was carried out in 2 sites (Bay and Cabuyao, Laguna) using 5g Klerat bait formulation. The intention was to determine the efficacy of the Klerat formulation for household use. Households in each test site were involved, and provided with either Klerat bait or pre-mixed coumatetralyl bait (0.0375% a.i.). Klerat bait was distributed either loose or with plastic container as bait holder. Tests revealed that the relative acceptance of Klerat was higher compared with coumatetralyl mixed baits whether the material was given to rats in container or as loose (Fvalue = 7.54 0.01). Substantial consumption of the test bait occurred during 3 weeks of the 5 weeks baiting program. These households treated with Klerat exhibited only a slight advantage in the level of control achieved over the coumatetralyl-treated households, the difference being not statistically significant. A minor safety hazard observed was some rats carried bait sachets from the initial bait points to some concealed areas.
