Nutritional and feeding values of different fermented soybean meals in broiler and in weanling pig diets
2009
Cundangan-Carpena, M.E.
Three experiments were conducted to determine the nutritional and feeding values of different kinds of fermented soybean meal (FSBM) in weanling pigs and broiler diets. The feeding trials were conducted to determine the effects of the different kinds of fermented soybean meal or nutrient digestibility, metabolizable energy and performance of pigs and broilers. The soybean meal (SBM) contained significantly lower (P0.05)crude protein (CP) but had significantly higher (P0.05) nitrogen free extract (NFE) than the three FSBM. The crude fat, crude fiber, calcium, phosphorous and amino acid contents of SBM were comparable (P0.05) with the different kinds of FSBM. The protein quality tests showed that SBM had comparable urease activity but had significantly higher (P0.05) protein solubility compared to the different FSBM preparations. In pig pre-starter diets, the apparent coefficient of digestibility (ACOD) of CP, crude fat, crude fiber and NFE did not differ significantly among treatments. The apparent metabolizable energy (AME) of all the diets did not differ significantly (P0.05). No significant differences (P0.05) were observed on average daily gain, feed consumption and feed efficiency of the pigs among treatments. The pigs fed diets with SBM (control diet) gave the lowest feed cost per kilogram gain. In broiler diets, the ACOD of CP, crude fat and NFE did not differ (P0.05) significantly among treatments. The starter diet with FSBM C had significantly higher (P0.05) AME than the other diets. Broiler fed diets with different kinds of FSBM did not differ (P0.05) significantly from those fed diets with SBM in terms of average body weight gain, feed consumption, feed efficiency, dressing percentage and livability. Broiler fed diets with SBM likewise gave the highest income over feed and chick costs.
