Building a university research culture: a challenge in the undergraduate education

The goal of a research university is to create a balanced system where every faculty and student learns in an academic environment which nurtures discovery, exploration and creativity among faculty members in different fields with undergraduate students, who views, perspectives and fresh approaches may open new directions for inquiry. The paper aims to present challenges and educational opportunities in the UPLB undergraduate education and also recommend ways to build an institutional culture in which students are in the center of the educational process, providing an enhanced and meaningful undergraduate experience incorporating research and exploration, and where faculty recognize the potential contribution of undergraduates can make their research agenda and the potential for enhancing teaching and learning through research.Show more [+] Less [-]
