Fujimoto, A. | Palikhe, A., Tokyo Univ. of Agriculture, Tokyo (Japan)
Standard of living is a result of many factors, including individual income, social infrastructure, and life cycle. In the mid-hill villages in Nepal, agricultural productivity remains low and social infrastructure lacking, leading to severe living conditions for farmers. This paper, based on data collected from a questionnaire survey conducted in three hilly villages, presents a descriptive account of how farmers are living. Particular discussion is given to the current state of demography, housing conditions, and household expenditure. It discusses hardship the farmers were facing and points out the need for social and economic development measures for improving their living standards.
