Yield performance of promising rice hybrids in Isabela [Philippines]
2012

Yield performance test is the last stage of evaluation before a promising hybrid be recommended for release as a commercial variety. This is a multi-location trial where promising entries identified from the advanced yield trials are evaluated for yield performance, agronomic characteristics, resistance to pest and diseases and grain quality in comparison with extensively used hybrid varieties. This will provide information on the location-specific stability of each entry. It aimed primarily to develop superior lines with emphasis on the improvement of yield performance. Different rice selections including check varieties, Mestizo 7, PSB RC82, Mestizo 19, Mestizo 1, PSB Rc18, IR64, and NSIC Rc 222 were evaluated during the dry and wet seasons of 2011. During the dry season, PR35564H (11.2 t/ha), MR18 (10.3 t/ha), DRH (12.6 t/ha) and MR18 (10.2 t/ha) obtained higher yield compared with the check varieties. However, during the wet season, MR18 (7.7 t/ha), and Rizalina 321 (9.0 t/ha), obtained the higher yield compared with the check varieties. Among the lines tested, MR obtained the highest yield in PhilRice Isabela condition during the dry and wet season.
