Amburana cearensis é espécie de distribuição ampla no Brasil, ocorrendo no Norte, Nordeste e Centro-Oeste, nas florestas estacionais nos ecótonos floresta/cerrado ou floresta/caatinga. É espécie de elevado valor comercial, estando ameaçada de extinção pela exploração intensiva de sua madeira e ausência de reposição. Pouco se conhece sobre crescimento e alocação de biomassa de espécies de floresta estacional em função do sombreamento. Espera-se que estas espécies apresentem plasticidade fenotípica, uma vez que estão sujeitas a forte gradiente estacional de luz em seu ambiente natural, em adição às variações de luz usualmente encontradas sob o dossel. Estudos desta natureza podem levar a um melhor entendimento do funcionamento dos ecossistemas de florestas estacionais e da silvicultura da espécie. O objetivo deste trabalho foi estudar o desenvolvimento de mudas de A. cearensis, sob diferentes níveis de sombreamento (0%, 50%, 70% e 90%) em viveiro. As mudas foram submetidas aos tratamentos aos quatro meses de idade e o delineamento experimental foi inteiramente ao acaso, com 25 repetições por tratamento. As medidas de altura, diâmetro do coleto e número de folhas foram efetuadas desde o início dos tratamentos, até as mudas atingirem 16 meses de idade. A massa seca aérea e subterrânea e o comprimento da raiz foram determinados quando as mudas estavam com 19 meses de idade. O desenvolvimento inicial da espécie, em viveiro, foi condizente com os padrões esperados para as espécies de floresta estacional, desenvolvendo-se melhor nas condições menos sombreadas e investindo na formação de raízes tuberosas. Desta maneira, a biomassa total foi maior a 0% (10,55g), seguido de 50% e 70% de sombreamento, enquanto a menor média foi encontrada a 90% (4,59g) de sombreamento. Para as plantas em pleno sol, cerca de 80% da biomassa total estava no sistema radicular. O alto investimento em sistema radicular manteve-se nos demais tratamentos. Com base no seu desenvolvimento inicial, sugere-se a introdução desta espécie em estádios iniciais de recuperação de florestas estacionais degradadas, assim como testá-la para reflorestamento.<br>Amburana cearensis has a wide geographical distribution throughout the seasonal forests and transition zones forest/savanna (Cerrado) and forest/dry seasonal forests (Caatinga) in the North, Northeast and Central Brazil. It is under threat due to over exploitation of its valuable timber and the massive convertion of the forests into agricultural land. Little is known on the growth and biomass allocation of the seasonal forests species. The hypothesis is that those species show some degree of phenotipic plasticity due to the strong seasonal light gradient found under natural conditions, in addition to those variations usually found under the canopy. This study can contribute to a better understanding of the functioning of the seasonal forest ecosystems and also to the silviculture of this species. The objective of this work was to study the growth and biomass allocation of seedlings of A. cearensis under full sun and three shading levels, in nursery conditions. The shading levels averaged 0%, 50%, 70% and 90% of the full sunlight. The experimental design was randomized with 25 replicates per treatment. Height, stem base diameter, number of leaves and leaflets were monitored from four months till 16 months of age, and dry matter was analyzed at 19 months of age. Biomass accumulation was affected by the shading levels. The total biomass was higher under full sunlight (10,55g), followed by 50%, and 70% shading, while the lowest average was found under 90% (4,59g). Eighty percent of total biomass was found in the roots for the unshaded plants. This pattern of biomass partioning predominantly to roots occurred in all treatments. The initial development under nursery conditions indicates that this species could be introduced during the early stages of a program to reclaim degraded seasonal forests, as well as used in plantation trials.
