小熊猫在中国的饲养历史及现状

１９３６年英国人史密斯在上海兆丰公园首次向世人展示了中国小熊猫．１９５３年２月成都动物园首次饲养了水熊猫．１９５４年６月２９日，北京动物园的小熊猫首先创下圈养繁殖记录，一胎产下２仔，但未能成活．１９６１年，上海动物园创下成功繁殖小熊猫并成活的先例．１９７７年６月１日，重庆动物园小熊猫成功繁殖出子二代．目前，小熊猫在中国的圈养种群为２５６只左右，分散在３０家饲养单位，圈养种群已初具规模，基本不需要野捕捉补充种源．
