The wastewater generated by the phenolic resin industry contains high concentrations of pollutants such as phenol and formaldehyde. Based on the characteristics, a certain phenolic resin production enterprise adopted a combination process of recycling phenolic resin, biological treatment, and deep oxidation treatment to treat the wastewater. Meanwhile, alkaline spray and biological deodorization process was used to treat the waste gas containing pollutants such as phenol and formaldehyde generated from wastewater treatment. The system had been in stable operation for 3 years, and the operating results showed that the adopted treatment process could significantly remove phenol and formaldehyde from wastewater. The emission concentrations of phenol and formaldehyde after treatment were less than 0.5 mg/L and 5 mg/L, respectively, which met the indirect discharge standards in the Emission Standard of Pollutants for Synthetic Resin Industry(GB 31572-2015) and the water quality requirements in the Integrated Wastewater Discharge Standards(GB 8978-1996). In addition, the exhaust gas monitoring results showed that formaldehyde, phenols, non-methane total hydrocarbons, ammonia, etc. met local environmental protection requirements. This treatment process had the characteristics of high removal efficiency, low investment and operating costs, and stable treatment effect, which could be widely used for the treatment of phenolic resin industrial wastewater.
