Abstract Significant advancements have been achieved in the field of power generation technologies over the years. Hybrid renewable energy (RE) systems have also shown significant development. But still there are challenges. Despite progress, the complexities involved in RE conversion, sizing, design, & implementation make considerable challenges on small power systems (PSs). As the penetration of RE sources continues to increase, the need for stability solutions becomes more critical. Ensuring reliability while optimizing cost-effectiveness is essential. Focusing on the PS of Sri Lanka, this research paper suggests an effective stability solution. The research proposes a methodology to mitigate the impact of the high variability and inertia issues associated with SPVs on the power system while maintaining the voltage stability of the feeder. It aims to boost the resilience & efficiency of small PSs that have high levels of inertia-less distributed generation (ILDG). The consideration of incorporating a small gas turbine generator (GT) that operates on LNG alongside SPVs, making a hybrid system, of an identified distribution feeder is being evaluated. To understand the situation better, an extensive survey of related research papers and technological reports was carried out. Being a major challenge due to increased ILDG, PS stability issues could be addressed effectively using the proposed scheme. Its effectiveness was evaluated through PSCAD/EMTDC simulations. Although they are highly variable, and unpredictable, this methodology paves way for more SPVs to penetrate the system.
