The occurrence of the perfect stage of Septoria nodorum, Leptosphaeria nodorum, on wheat stubbles in Lower Saxony was demonstrated by means of a suction spore-trap (Burkhard). Huge quantities of ascospores were caught mainly in fall and spring. Presumably their importance as inoculum source has been underestimated in the past, being suited for long-range spreading
