Culex torrentium which was thought long time as a non synanthropical species, was since the fifties often found in big cities. The reasons for this changing of breeding places from mountainous regions into plains and cities were discussed. In Berlin C. torrentium occurred in pools and could be settled in artifical small ponds (metal tons). It is mostly accounted with C. pipiens, which the abundance of both depends by water temperature
