Rape seed as energy carrier
1989
Strehler, A. (Bayerische Landesanstalt fuer Landtechnik, Freising (Germany, F.R.). Abteilung Technik im Pflanzenbau)
Through energy production from biomass, a relief of pressure on agrarian markets can be expected. Producing a liquid energy carrier from rape seed through chemical extraction is a proven industrial separation method. Production in small plants is also possible. Utilization is only possible in pre-chamber diesel engines or in specially adapted engines. Through transesterification standard diesel engines can be operated with rape seed oil. The additional use of rape seed straw as an energy source doubles the energy output per hectare.
