According to the Plant Protection Act, plant protection equipment has to meet legal requirements before it can be put on the market. This involves that nozzles of field sprayers provide a uniform horizontal distribution. When assessing them, experts so far have not been taking sufficiently into consideration the pattern formed by the individual nozzle and the overall distribution by all nozzles. It is the concern of the present article to formulate, in mathematical terms and based on measurements, the reproducible share of an individual nozzle in the distribution and its evalution by help of autocorrelation in order to derive from it the quality of distribution of all nozzles. This procedure is demonstrated by examples. The bases for a new method of evaluation for field sprayers are elaborated resulting in an improved assessment
