Von den Blattoberflaechen von Weizen, Reis, Kartoffeln, Tomaten, Bananen, Zuckerrohr, Senf und Jute werden Corynebacterium, Flavobacterium sp., F. breve, F. capsulatum, Azotobacter chroococcum, Bacillus sp., Beijerinckia indicia, Azomonas macrozytogenes isoliert und morphologisch und biochemisch charakterisiert. Die diazotrophen Bakterien waren meist vom nichtkonventionellen Typ, obgleich sie auf den Phylloplanen aller geernteten Pflanzen vorkamen. Ihre Faehigkeit zur Stickstoffixierung wurde durch die Acetylen-Reduktionstechnik ermittelt.
