Pollen storage in corn (Zea mays L.) - a tool for hybridisation

Storage of maize pollen in gelatin capsules with different colloidal substances such as albumin, cellulose, skimmed milk and talkum under different temperatures were carried out inorder to test the viability of pollen in in vitro and in vivo conditions. Storage of pollen at -80 degrees C with albumin exhibitted maximum seed setting. No remarkable changes were observed in the ultra structure of fresh and stored pollen with the exception of Talkum.
