The main purpose of the symposium, on "Snow and avalanches test sites" held in Grenoble in 2001, was to strengthen and develop the international and European cooperation between all the institutes involved. All the papers presented are reported in these proceedings and mainly deal with full-scale avalanche test sites, snowdrift and avalanche release in situ studies, as well as related instrumentation. This book will be a source of information for scientists, engineers and students and a useful tool for sharing research results and improving the prevention of snow avalanche disasters.
