Le vieillissement des barrages en remblai et leur réhabilitation sont examinés sous les aspects techniques et économiques au travers d'une population de 215 barrages construits dans le Sud-Ouest de la France. Il apparaît que le vieillissement des ouvrages est lié aux options constructives qui tendent à réduire le coût de la construction au mépris des règles de l'art, ainsi qu'à l'absence de suivi et d'entretien ne permettant pas de déceler les dérives de comportement en temps utile. Ce document explique les mécanismes du vieillissement notamment ceux qui touchent à la pathologie interne et aborde les aspects préventifs et confortatifs des différents types de désordre. L'ouvrage s'adresse aux bureaux d'études, aux maîtres d'oeuvre publics ou privés et aux maîtres d'ouvrages qui y trouveront quelques arguments de discussion avec les bureaux d'études et les entreprises pour réhabiliter un barrage déficient.

English. The ageing and rehabilitation of embankment dams was examined from the technical and economic points of view on the basis of a population of 215 dams built in the South-West of France. It appears that the ageing of these structures is linked with choices made during construction to neglect good practice in order to reduce construction costs, as well as with the absence of monitoring and maintenance leading to a failure to detect behavioural problems in good time. This document explains the mechanisms of ageing, and notably those related to internal pathologies, and touches on the questions of prevention and reinforcement of the various types of defect. This work is intended for civil engineering offices, public and private works engineers and clients and provides some arguments for use in their discussions with design offices and engineering companies when it comes to rehabilitating deficient dams.
