Birds and climate change | Les oiseaux face au changement climatique

English. This paper reviews the scientific knowledge about the known and potential impacts of climate change on birds. Current impacts are: - many bird species shifted upwards and northwards (but not always) (especially relic and Nordic species), - a tendency to become sedentary (in relationship with conditions on the wintering grounds), - longer times spend on the breeding grounds, - advanced breeding phenology but sometimes with desynchronisation. Forecasting future changes in bird populations is very challenging except that the current trends are likely to continue. Nonetheless, simultaneous habitat loss and climate change are likely to deeply impact bird communities. In this context, it is necessary to think about forestry practices favourable to birds in an uncertain future.

French. L'article passe en revue les connaissances scientifiques sur l'impact du réchauffement climatique actuel sur l'avifaune et les impacts futurs potentiels. Les changements récents de l'avifaune que l'on met en relation avec le changement climatique récent sont : - des remontées en latitude (avec nuances) et en altitude (surtout espèces nordiques et les reliques glaciaires), - le déclin des reliques glaciaires et espèces nordiques, - des tendances à la sédentarisation (en lien avec les conditions sur les territoires d'hivernage), - un temps de séjour plus long sur les territoires de reproduction, - l'avancée de la reproduction, mais parfois des problèmes de synchronisation. Il est très difficile de prévoir l'avenir de l'avifaune en France, en dehors des tendances déjà mentionnées. Cependant, la destruction des habitats et le changement climatique feront un cocktail désastreux. Dans ce contexte, il est légitime de réfléchir à une gestion sylvicole favorable à l'avifaune pour un avenir incertain.
