Profitability of Glyphosate-Resistant Sugarbeet Production in Whole Farm Systems
2017
Lee, Brian | Ritten, John | Bastian, Christopher | Kniss, Andrew
A Linear Programming model coupledwith Monte Carlo simulation comparesthe profitability of glyphosate-resistant(GR) and conventional sugarbeetsystems for a case farm in SoutheastWyoming. The optimal combinationof cropping mixtures maximizing totalfarm profitability is determined basedon varying crop and input prices as wellas rotational constraints impacting thepotential acres of GR sugarbeet. Ifrestrictions on GR sugarbeet occur, producers are better off to grow at leastsome conventional sugarbeet in theirrotation. Profitability reductions wouldlikely not be as great as partial budgetanalyses might indicate if no sugarbeetwere available, although much morevariable.
