[A new method to fertilize sugar cane]
1995
Strebin, S. | Iani P, G.
Sugar cane was fertilized by a new method which uses an attachment adapted to a sugar cane fertilizer implement that deposits the fertilizer on the center of the row where there is maximum root concentration. The attachment that deposits the fertilizer consists of a vertical smoooth disk mounted on a roller bearing, supported by an arm attached to the frame of the implement. The disk opens a small trench, 15 cm deep, in which the fertilizer is deposited by gravity from a tank mounted on the frame above the disk. Preliminary trials indicate that this method of fertilizing sugar cane is superior to the methods presently used. The cane recuperates at least two weeks quicker after cutting. Less fertilizer can be used and production of cane is greater.
