The objective of this research was to know the species and insect pest population together with the destruction on the beans storage in Manado and Bitung regions. Field research was conducted in Manado and Bitung. Laboratory research was conducted in the Laboratory of Entomology and Plant Pest, Faculty of Agriculture, Sam Ratulangi University in Manado. This research was conducted for four months, from September to December 1999. The method of this research was done through a survey at shops and centers of selling and storage of peanuts in the Manado and Bitung areas. The sampling methods was purposive sampling method. In each place a sample of 100 grams stored beans was taken and repeated five times. The observation of this research included examination of insect pests which attacked the stored beans, pest population density and yield lost on the stored green peas, peanut, red beans and soybean in Manado and Bitung areas. Identification of insect pests which is found on the sample of the beans in the Manado and Bitung areas i.e. B. chinensis attacked green peas and soybeans, S. oryzae attacked green peas and red beans, C. demidiatus and T. castaneum attacked peanuts. The result of the examination of the insect population causing plant disease of stored peanuts in Manado and Bitung indicates that B. chinensis has a very high population density of 138.4 creatures in green peas and 34.7 creatures in soybeans then followed by S. oryzae i.e. 23.3 creatures in green peas and 81.1 creatures in red beans as well as C. demidiatus and T. castaneum with each a population density of 15.05 creatures and 8.1 creatures in peanuts. The stored green peas has the highest density of the infecting population then followed by soybeans, peanuts and red beans. The greatest decrease of weight was in green peas i.e. 3.69 grams then followed by stored peanuts 3.30 grams, soybeans 2.06 grams and red beans 1.77 grams
