Mahasena corbetti Tams is a serious economic pest of oil palm. This paper describes the status of Mahasena corbetti and summarises the Integrated Pest Management (IPM) techniques adopted to control them in Lonsum Plantations, North Sumatra. The available information on the distribution, host plants, life histories, dispersal, and the natural enemies of the bagworm is reviewed. IPM of these pests in Lonsum Plantations is described with examples. Control of this bagworm is most economically achieved by spraying only the palms along roadsides with a granulosis virus. Parasites and predators also play an essential role in maintaining a favourable natural balance after control of an outbreak. For example the parasitism of the young larvae of Mahasena corbetti by Apanteles sp. has been observed to reach 60 percent whilst 20 percent of the older larvae are typically parasitised by Tachinids. To help preserve parasites and predators flowering weeds such as Euphorbia ornifolia, Ageratum conyzoides and Turnera subulata are protected and are being actively planted in oil palm fields
