Development of high yielding variety was suitable for special environment method easy adapted by farmer and have change environment condition with expensive input every year. The experiment was conducted on ultisol soil type Sitiung A from September 2002 to January 2003 of sixteen cultivar of upland rice, in a randomized complete block design with four replications. Fertilizer used 150 kg urea, 100 kg SP36 and 100 kg KCl/ha. Variables measured were agronomic characters, yield component and yield. The performance of five lines each DHL-01-11, DHL-01-08, DHL-01-17, DHL-01-03 and DHL-01-14 high yield potential more than Laut Tawar. The difference yield with Laut Tawar in succeccion 0,41 t/ha; 0.73 t/ha; 1.29 t/ha; 0.68 t/ha and 0.98 t/ha. Those lines resistant to leaf blast, neck blast, seed ear precisely and high percentage fertile. Result of the experiment indicated that heritabilities of all plant characters were high (59.96 percent - 83.87 percent), only day maturity was moderate (29.93 percent). Based on high of value of coefficient genetic (CG), coefficient variation genetic (CVG) and variation phenotypic (CVP) of agronomic characters, yield component and yield. The information of genetic and phenotypic variation, selection for higher yield of upland rice could be done for method selection to effectivities and efficiencies selection reached.
