Growth and yield of sweet potato plant (Ipomoea batatas L.) on application of several dosage of rice straw ashes

An experiment about the effect of several dosages of rice straw ashes was carried out during the period of February to May 2001 on farmer land at Kelurahan Pasar Ambacang Kecamatan Kuranji, Kota Padang, West Sumatra and at the Soil Science Lab. Fac. of Agriculture, Andalas University. Five treatments were used with three replications and each arranged in Randomized Block Design. The treatments were several dosages of rice straw ashes namely: no rice straw ashes: 13.5 gram rice straw ashes/plant equal to 600 kg/ha (26.75 kg K2O/ha); 27 gram rice straw ashes/plant equal to 1200 kg/ha (53,51 kg K2O/ha); 40,5 gram rice straw ashes/plant equal to 1800 kg/ha (80.26 K2O/ha); and 54 gram rice straw ashes/plant equal to 2400 kg/ha (107,02 kg K2O/ha). Result of the experiment showed that various dosage s of rice straw ashes gave significantly different effect on the growth and tuber yield of sweet potato plant. Treatment of 54 gram rice straw ashes/plant gave the best growth for emerging of cuttings, length of vine and weight of tuber roots of sweet potato plant.
