Development of conservation farming on volcanic upland soils of the Jratunseluna watershed, Semarang district

English. Conservation farming systems research was conducted on volcanic soil at the Ungaran Field Laboratory in Semarang District from 1987 through 1990. The research purpose was to identify alternative conservation farming technologies which can increase farmers income and production, decrease erosion, be economically feasible, and can be accepted by farmers. A randomized complete block design with five treatments (conservation farming systems) and three replications was used. Research results indicate that the most suitable conservation farming alternatives for the site were ridge terraces, credit terraces and alley cropping. Conservation farming on vulcanic land with fruits such as "lengkeng" (Nephelium longan), durian (Durio zibethinus), rambutan (Nephelium lappaceum), and bananas (Musa paradisiaca) has potential with a multiple strata planting system. This may also have a positive impact on tourism development, land and water conservation and honey-bee development. Some indirect benefits include reduction of eutrofication, long development of fresh water fish and generation of electric water power from the Rawa Pening lake.

Tujuannya adalah mencari alternatif teknologi sistem usahatani konservasi yang terjangkau oleh petani, dapat meningkatkan produksi dan pendapatan, mengurangi erosi, layak Bank serta dapat diterima oleh petani. Penelitian menggunakan rancangan acak lengkap dengan lima kelompok sistem usahatani konservasi sebagai perlakuan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa alternatif sistem usahatani konservasi yang teknik konservasi awalnya teras gulud, teras kredit dan pertanaman lorong. Pengembangan sistem usahatani konservasi lahan vulkanik dengan tanaman buah-buahan seperti lengkeng, durian, rambutan dan pisang sebagai tanaman utama dengan sistem strata pohon akan berdampak positif terhadap pengembangan pariwisata, koservasi tanah dan air, pengembangan lebah madu, mereduksi eutrofikasi danau Rawa Pening, pengembangan perikanan darat dan keberlanjutan listrik tenaga air di danau tersebut.
