Podzolic-gley soils in Baltic Sea transgressional sediment. 1. General characterization
1994
Paas, A.
Properties of podzolic-gley soils in catenas on sandy and bilayered sediments, that originated during the Baltic transgression, have been considered. The podzolic-gley soils are shown to be formed due to surface base-poor water or to a high ground water table. Morphological features of these soils are described. The podzolic-gley soils in the Baltic Sea transgressional sedimentary have all the qualities typical for these soils. The upper horizons are strongly acidic and they are poor in carbonates; organic substance is poor in nitrogen. It is characteristic that from under o,5...0,6 metre they are sometimes saturated with carbonates
